The current crop of consoles is approaching the fourth year since launch. Both consoles entered the market at surreal times as Covid was still churning and consumers were ready for something to do while at home.

In the years since the gaming industry has seen even more shifts and changes. Xbox has shifted toward a digital approach with cloud gaming and Game Pass while PlayStation has remained focused on tentpole titles.

Neither approach has fully worked.

Xbox made news with a series of shuddered developers while PlayStation continues to vary its strategy by venturing into PC ports for their once-exclusive titles.

Throw in new competition from handheld gaming PCs and the possible Switch 2.

So as these consoles approach the possible middle of their lifecycles, and with refreshes potentially on the horizon, do you view this console generation as a flop? Has it yet to reach its full potential? Or has the PS5 and/or Xbox Series already been successful in your eyes?

Starting to feel like the gaming industry is intensely shrinking.

PlayStation makes the comfiest controllers.

Xbox makes a controller that I think about the least while using it.

Amazing to watch a smaller, focused game like Helldivers 2 get a ton of attention while Warner Bros. wonders why their huge AAA title based on a less-than-beloved IP didn't do well.

Maybe lower the scope and cost of these AAA titles and they won't be hit-or-miss successes.

I have no love for the ESA, but watching more and more major events fall to one person is worse imo. Keighley's production company now assists with Summer Games Fest, Gamescom, and The Game Awards. That's three major events throughout the year where he directly profits.

Whereas the ESA had some responsibility to serve the industry (which is pretty laughable given their track record), resting that responsibility in the hands of one person doesn't seem wise.

Not to mention Keighley already has an inconsistent at best record of responding to issues within the industry. Either taking too long or ignoring issues altogether.

It's a shame E3 couldn't continue but hopefully whatever replaces it is an upgrade.

The image looks correct to me.

@junkerman: Walmart sells very cheap acrylic paints. 50 cents each (make sure you get the matte and not the gloss which costs more). It's a good variety of colors and some cheap painting supplies as well.

I'd look up some decent brand of primer to use if they're minis you hope to have for a while. And maybe a pack of washes from the more established brands like Vallejo. Then once you're most comfortable you can upgrade the paints and won't feel like you're wasting money. For the most part, the quality won't be that different.

I found getting a bunch of cheap minifigs and practicing on those was very cost-effective. It didn't just allow me to fuck up the paint job but also mess around with what brushes I liked, the paint I wanted, etc.

You're not suspended from editing the wiki. That page is one of a handful that is somewhat broken. Either too many associations or connections render it pretty unusable.
