Story
Rain comes from the realm of Edenia, along with Kitana, Taven, and Daegon. He was borns with abilities to manipulate water, weather, and lightning bolts. As a small child Rain witnessed the invasion of his home by Shao Kahn and his Outworld forces. Rain mysteriously disappeared until Kahn began his invasion of Earthrealm. Rain was attacked by Kahn's extermination squad and was given the choice to either join Kahn or die. Rain chose to serve Kahn and began fighting against the Earthrealm fighters. During Armageddon, Rain learns that he is the son of Argus, the protector god of Edenia. Rain then begins to call himself the Prince of Edenia and no longer fights under Kahn but still fights on the side of evil. He wishes to kill both Taven and Daegon in order to get the ultimate prize promised to the fighter that can defeat Blaze.
Endings
Rain fought bravely for Shao Kahn, but Kahn's daughter, Kitana, turned Rain against him. Rain learns that his father was a general in the Edenia army, and was killed by Shao Khan himself. This revelation throws Rain into a fit of rage, and he joins Kitana. Some warriors doubted his loyalty to Kitana and the Earthrealm, so Rain embarks on a suicide mission to destory Shao Kahn and finish him forever. (Non-Canon)
Rain learns that he is actually the half-brother of Taven and Daegon. He becomes a full god and the protector of Edenia but instead enslaves the entire realm. (Non-Canon)
In Mortal Kombat, Rain aligns himself with Shao Kahn after being denied leadership of the Edenian resistance forces. Shao Kahn uses Rain to crush what is left of the resitance but still have not rewarded Rain his own army. Enraged by this betrayal, Rain drowns Shao Kahn. A thankful Raiden appears before Rain pleased that Shao Kahn has been defeated and that Earthrealm is now saved. Raiden reveals Rain's true heritage, and that he is a descendant of an Edenian god. A proud and arrogant Rain found this information to be fitting for his quest for more power. He then uses Shao Kahn's army to begin his own conquest, starting with Earthrealm...

2D Rain
- Mind-Control Orb - Rain projects a light-blue sphere of water at his opponent, which shatters as it hits. A successful hit allows Rain to move his opponent's body in any direction for a few seconds.
- Shocking Bolt - Rain raises his arm and summons a blue lightning bolt that smashes down on opponents, bringing them in the air to set them up for combos while they fall.
- Super Roundhouse - Rain's roundhouse sends his opponent clear to the other side of the screen.
3D Rain
- Shocking Bolt - Rain raises his arm and summons a blue lightning bolt that smashes down on opponents, bringing them in the air to set them up for combos while they fall.
- Water Blast - Rain shoots a jet of water at his opponent.
- Mystic Vapors - Rain creates a puddle of water below himself, sinks into it, and reappears behind his opponent.
- Windy Feet - Rain jumps into the air and lunges forward feet first, propelling himself with a constant blast of water.
Fatalities
- Uppercut Decapitation - Rain uppercuts his opponent and as they fly into the air they are sliced into strips when the person falls they land in strips from their head up to their feet
- Shocking Explosion - Rain does multiple shocking bolts until his opponent explodes
- Animality - Rain turns into a small elephant and blows his horn which blows the skin off of his opponent
Trivia
Rain was originally created by Ed Boon as a joke character for a single shot; He's a purple ninja named Rain who is also a prince. Prince. Purple. Rain. Get it? He shows up in the attract mode of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3's arcade version, but was later made into a full fledged character in UMK3's home releases (Genesis & SNES) and again in Mortal Kombat Trilogy.
